Multimap first began as a commercial mapping company selling map solutions on a pence per map basis. Due to the success of this business model, 2008 saw Microsoft acquire Multimap.

Multimap still offer the same service as before but you can also use a version of the service for non-commercial purposes for free. One difference to the other mapping options is that Multimap were a UK based company and offer Ordnance Survey mapping products (this one shows the 1:50000 scale raster).

Within the mapping service you can embed the maps within your own page design. You can create custom tools for using the map. You can add points to the map to represent anything that has a geographic location. You can also add regions to the map such as national park boundaries, sales areas, authority boundaries.

To move around the map you can use the controls to the right of the map or click and drag with your mouse to move the map. You can optionally change the backdrop map using the buttons to the top left.

Many of the mapping services can be used freely for non-commercial purposes but if your required map use is of a commercial nature then MultiMap provide a cost efficient way to implement a mapping solution.
