This database provides examples of waterfront regeneration from around the world, including the experiences of Waterfront Communities Project partners (link to partner pages). Its purpose is to share the learning being generated by the project with other cities facing similar challenges. We hope that it will inspire good practice and creative thinking about the challenges of waterfront development such as strengthening waterfront communities.
The Waterfront Communities Project is based on learning from direct experience of waterfront development around the North Sea using an action research approach. The database has been designed to support this learning. Database entries have been chosen to illustrate experiences relevant to the nine key themes of the project (link to themes pages).
The information in these case studies has been taken from questionnaires completed by planning and development professionals. In some cases, the information provided has been supplemented by information from additional sources including websites. References to published and unpublished literature and websites are acknowledged in the database entry and where possible a contact for further information has been included. If you would like to include the experience of your city please complete the questionnaire and forward to Heriot Watt University.
